How do we control freshness and food safety of our products in transit?

When it comes to delivering high-quality fruit products, the journey from our processing plant to the customer is just as important as the processing itself. We know that food safety is a top priority in delivering our ingredients, so we’ve developed strict measures to ensure that every product arrives in perfect condition. 

Cold chain integrity

Temperature control is a big focus in ensuring food safety. From the moment our products leave our warehouse, they travel within a carefully managed cold chain. This means that wherever they go, they are kept at the same optimal temperature – whether refrigerated or frozen. With our pouch packed and aseptically packed products, there is more flexibility with transport, since these are treated and packed to be safely stored in ambient conditions, with a longer shelf life. With cold transport, our own fridge vans are regularly monitored and serviced to make sure they are calibrated and consistently maintaining the right temperature for chilled products. 

Protective, food grade packaging

As mentioned with the aseptic and pouch packed products, these are processed and packaged in sterile conditions that allow them to be safely stored at room temperature. With the refrigerated and frozen products, our food-grade, sealed packaging is designed to prevent contamination, protect against moisture or odour absorption and minimize exposure to oxygen – all of which can happen in transit or storage. The tough blue packaging gives the consumer peace of mind that the packaging can be easily distinguished from the apple product. 

Partnering with trusted carriers

When our trucks aren’t delivering product direct to customers, their delivering our products to our trusted transport partners, to distribute around the country. We work only with logistics providers who meet our strict hygiene and handling standards. All drivers and warehouse staff handling our goods are trained to understand safe food transport practices, as well as the risk of contamination. This awareness with our drivers and staff ensure the integrity of our products isn’t compromised.

Shipment tracking and documentation

When creating and booking in our shipments for delivery, we maintain full visibility over where each load is picked up, and its journey to the customer. Being able to specify which temperature class our products are shipped in, gives us peace of mind that our ingredients will reach the customer in the exact condition in which they left us. Our dispatch records and temperature logs provide traceability for every load, in the case of temperature or contamination issues. 

Minimising time in transit

We plan with our transport companies and truck drivers the most efficient route and means of delivery to customers. We believe that the least time the product is in transit, the better, maximising shelf life and decreasing the likelihood of contamination or danger zone temperatures of the product during delivery.
