How do we ensure food safety and maintain freshness of processed fruit ingredients?

At Avondale Foods, food safety and freshness are at the centre of everything we do. From orchard or fruit supplier, through to final packaging of the finished product, every step of the process is designed to ensure top quality and freshness.

Locally sourced fruit

For our in-house processing, we only use 100% Australian grown produce. Working closely with local and neighboring growers, and harvesting our own apple crops annually, we can both support local agriculture, and maintain control of the quality of our fruit. Sourcing locally also ensures shorter transport times, and relationships with our growers mean we can access fruit for certain products at a short notice.

Purpose-built processing

Our processing facilities are designed for efficiency and control. Using a combination of temperature management (both before, during and after processing), hygienic handling, and minimal processing, we are able to retain the fruit’s natural qualities while preventing spoilage and contamination.

Rigorous Food Safety Systems

At Avondale Foods, food safety and quality is more than just a compliance requirement—it’s an integral part of our culture. We foster a strong food safety culture across all levels of our business, where every team member understands their role in protecting the integrity and safety of our products. This shared commitment drives proactive behaviour, accountability, and pride in everything we produce. Our robust food safety and quality systems are developed, implemented, and are certified to HACCP based GFSI standards. The QA framework includes PRPs, hazard identification, risk assessment and risk mitigation through CCP monitoring, food defence, and food fraud prevention, all driven by a strong internal food safety culture. From paddock to plate, we ensure our products are safe, authentic, and handled with care.

Smart preservation

Several preservation techniques are used in our manufacturing process, and they vary depending on the nature of the product being produced. For our pureed products, these are all aseptically treated and packaged, meaning that they can be safety stored in ambient conditions and have a long shelf life of 18 months – 2 years. With our blanched and fresh products, these naturally have a shorter date and require managed and monitored cool room storage or freezing to ensure freshness. For products requiring refrigeration, from production to dispatch, we maintain a carefully controlled cold chain to ensure products arrive with the clients as fresh as possible.

The result of all these contributing factors ensure we supply a safe, high-quality and reliable fruit ingredient – on time, every time.

Our commitment to safety and quality is backed by rigorous third-party standards. View our certifications to learn more.
